GRS is the first gemological laboratory world-wide to offer automated report verification and translation into 11 of world’s languages.
New 2-dimensional barcode added on GRS Reports which will allow to verify GRS Reports by mobile phones, laser scanner or web camera in conjunction with a computer and translate the report into 11 languages.
How to use it: (Update for GRS reports printed after 11th June 2008)

 GRS' normal report
GRS' Smart Report ™ front side
GRS' Smart Report ™ back side
- To read the barcode you need:
A compatible mobile phone and a software, you can find a list of the phones and software here.

OR
A 2-D barcode scanner connected to a computer with Internet access. Scanning a laminated report might prove difficult. Laser scanners are only recommended for use with Smart Reports (Only for reports issued before the 11th of June 2008).
 Scanning 2D barcode with Metrologic MS1690 Focus®
OR
A web camera. The camera's resolution must be 2 mega pixel or more (1,280 x 960 or more). It should have a macro option. Barcode scanning program can be downloaded from here.
- If you are using a mobile phone: start the QuickMark barcode software, point the camera at the barcode and click, the image will be captured by the camera and the software will scan the code and upon successful scanning, it will import the information from the barcode and ask if you would like to go to GRS' website www.gemresearch.ch.
- If you are using a web cam: start the bcWebCam barcode software, open your Internet browser (Internet explorer, Firefox, etc..), place the cursor in the address bar and scan the Translation and Verification Code on either the GRS' Smart Report ™ or GRS' full report. To copy the whole report, open the destination application (notepad, excel, etc..) place the cursor in the application and scan the Full Report Code from GRS' Smart Report ™.
Alternatively, QuickMark barcode software can be used for scanning the Translation and Verification Code on either the GRS' Smart Report ™ or GRS' full report. Point the camera at the barcode and click, the image will be captured by the camera and the software will scan the code and upon successful scanning, it will import the information from the barcode and ask if you would like to go to GRS' website www.gemresearch.ch.
The difference between bcWebCam barcode software and QuickMark barcode software is that the bcWebCam software does not automatically open the web browser such as the QuickMark software; however, the use of the bcWebCam barcode software should be extremely easy to use for skilled computer user. The advantage of bcWebCam barcode software is that its very easy to position the barcode and the software reacts fast to the barcode information. QuickMark barcode is best for using on our full format plastified reports.
- If you are using a barcode scanner connected to a computer: open your Internet browser (Internet explorer, Firefox, etc..), place the cursor in the address bar and scan the code. To copy the whole report, open the destination application (notepad, excel, ect..) place the cursor in the application and scan the Full Report Code.
Once you are on our website, it will interact with you as follows:

Note: In reports dated after the 11th of June 2008 we enhanced the 2D barcode (quick response code) design on our GRS reports in order to facilitate better compatibility with various types of webcams and mobile phones. 2D laser barcode scanner is now able to read our plastified 2D barcodes as they appear on the lower right corner of our report as well.
